Vladivostok

In the winter of 1997, my sister Toni and I flew from Nagoya to Vladivostok to catch the Trans Siberian to Moscow

At certain stations, the train would stop long enough for us to buy coal from the locals (to heat our compartment).

For about 30 rubles, they would pass a small bag of coal up to us through the train window.
