About:  Tell me about islands / Talk to me about an island was a series of performance-conversations that ran over the opening weekend of the exhibition The Island Could be Heard by Night, at The Lock Up - an old goal (c. 1861) turned contemporary art space.

Belinda Howden and I sat in separate spaces/jail cells and spoke to people 1:1 for 3 hours at a time. The topic was imaginings and/or experiences of islands. My main interest was to look at the language surrounding islands, by discussing with people if they saw themselves as 'on' or 'in' an island.

Some people spoke to me for 5 minutes, others 45 minutes. Some people laid down on the bed with me and others sat on the edge of the mattress.

I did not record the conversations with cameras or dictaphones etc, but I made some notes and sketches in a notepad while people talked.
